On June 8, the Official Mexican Standard NOM-037-STPS-2023, Telework - Occupational Health and Safety Conditions, was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation and will enter into force on December 5, 2023.

The purpose of this standard is to establish health and safety conditions in the workplaces where teleworkers perform their activities, in order to prevent accidents and diseases, as well as to promote a safe and healthy environment.

The main obligations (among others) that this standard entails are:

  • Establish a Telework Policy that regulates this modality.
  • To have a registry of the people in Telework modality.
  • Verify that workplace conditions are adequate and safe.
  • Provide the necessary supplies and accessories for the development of the activities and that guarantee safe ergonomic conditions (chair, table, etc.).
  • Establish maintenance programs for IT tools.
  • Provide training on safety and health conditions.
  • Follow up on accidents reported by teleworkers.
